Thomas & Taylor hired me as a full planner for their May wedding back in November of last year. This gave us about 6 months to pull together their dream day. I could write a novel of all the ways that working with them was an immense blessing to me. As a wedding planner, one of the greatest gifts to receive from a couple is their trust. Thomas & Taylor trusted me to make sure their day was planned and ran smoothly.
Starting at 6 months out, we immediately tackled vendor booking. Month-by-month, we met to discuss what needed to be accomplished for that month, as well as what was still left from prior months (rehearsal dinner venue, tuxes picked out, bridesmaids dresses ordered, hair and makeup scheduled, invitations designed and sent out). As a planner, I am happy to fill whatever role the couple wants me to fill. For Thomas and Taylor, I was heavily involved in planning, but didn’t completely take over. They wanted to have a sense of ownership over certain aspects of their day as well to make sure it represented what they wanted.
As the day approached, we dug into the details like creating a packing list, nailing down the timeline, and communicating with the extensive vendor list. I was honored to help Thomas and Taylor create a design plan for their table centerpieces. This consisted of a full document and “mood board” that outlines the varying centerpieces and how much it would cost to DIY vs. rent. With help from Event Artistry and The Celebratory Society, their day was Southern, Classic, and Elegant. Featuring light blue and light pink hues, paired with gold and white, everything about their day was beautiful. From the front entry way, to the centerpieces, I was blown away
When the day came, it all flowed seamlessly. I could not have picked a more perfect day for Thomas and Taylor’s wedding day. I have to give a special shout-out to McKenzies BBQ. I have to say their ribs are among the top 3 I’ve ever had. In addition, the energy that Love and Happiness Band brought kept people on the dance floor the entire night. I have never seen as many guests present for the send-off as what I saw at this wedding. They were flexible, relaxed and low maintenance. Their set-up was elevated by Premier Wedding and Party Rentals (ask for Devon to be your set-up person!! He’s the best). Finally, the venues for both the wedding and rehearsal were incredible to work with. The Farmhouse has a GORGEOUS space and the staff was all incredibly kind and helpful. The night before the wedding, the bridal party and family had dinner at Monty’s Lighthouse. They were incredibly accommodating to our requests, and have a beautiful space overlooking the water.
As I reflect on the day, I recall a key piece of advice I gave them. Often in our calls they would ask, “Is it okay if we do… XYZ” or “Can I do _____ on the wedding day?”. As much as possible, I desire to be a “yes” planner. Throughout our time together, I often reminded them, “This is your day! You can do whatever you want!”. This encouragement resulted in them making decisions that reflected what they wanted for their day. They wanted to have ribs at their wedding. They wanted to take a private tequila shot together. They wanted to dance to the full song instead of a part of it for their first dances. SO THEY DID! As a planner, I want my couples to know that this day is about them, and to help them sort through the endless opinions they receive from external sources to navigate what they actually want on their day.
